PUNE: Walking a fine line between throwing comedy punches and raising awareness of mental health, a group of professionals in the latter field will host a comedy show at a Kothrud cafe today, sharing lighter moments at work .
The first free event of its kind titled “Psycomedy” will take place at Cafehouse Reeka at 7 p.m. Hosted by Ananda.ai, an online mental wellness platform, it features acts by dream analysts and therapists Devika Limayeclinical psychologist and mental health blogger Sejal Shinde, and clinical psychologist and person centered therapy (PCT) therapist Varsha Vatak.
“People also have a lot of misconceptions about mental health professionals, which can be funny. For example, it’s not uncommon for patients to bargain with us for fees, which they don’t do with other doctors,” Vatak said.
Limaye shared, “I was watching this song by Madhuri Dixit, ‘Dhak dhak karne laga’, when I realized that the lyrics were actually depicting symptoms of clinical anxiety! I then found many more such examples, which I will share to educate the public about these disorders in an entertaining way. Maybe they will relate to it, or at least be informed by the act,” she said.
“Nothing is scripted. We will speak from our own experiences, engage with the audience and go with the flow,” Shinde said.
Amol Ghemud, Founder of Ananda.ai, said, “We will hold this event in other metropolitan cities where people are familiar with stand-up comedy, followed by Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, from here. next year.”
